Meet the owner, Tyler Conner
“I’ve seen the look of relief when homeowners realize they have finally found the correct and cost-effective solutions they have been searching for.”
I got sucked into the idea of saving the planet with my hands and not just my voice. After all, conversations about energy efficiency without practical application are just more hot air heating up the planet. That’s why I started Home Energy Solutions, to look at energy efficiency and building science in an innovative and pragmatic way.
I have 3 non-negotiable values with operating this business:
Integrity
Technical Proficiency
Customer Satisfaction
These values were formed out of my professional experience in the greater Charlotte Mecklenburg area for over a decade. In that time I noticed two main issues:
I have seen NO improvement with regards to HVAC installation practices among most tradespeople
Tract home builders (think subdivisions) often sacrifice high quality and long-lasting construction techniques and materials for quick-turnaround techniques and low-cost poor quality materials. This has resulted in homes that require intensive maintenance in 5-10 years when it used to take 20+ years!
My favorite part of this business is meeting with a homeowner and learning about their experiences. I’ve seen the look of relief when homeowners realize they have finally found the correct and cost-effective solutions they have been searching for. I love providing peace of mind to homeowners, knowing their biggest investment is better protected.
Offering clients a better experience in the building science industry is a primary goal at Home Energy Solutions. Over the years I’ve met so many homeowners who were living with problems in their homes for years because they either didn’t know where to turn or were misguided by other vendors.

Servicing the Filter of an Energy Recovery Ventilation Machine (ERV). In energy-efficient homes, a machine like this is critical in achieving optimal air quality and building vitality.

Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) technology is vital for achieving healthy indoor air quality. An ERV machine not only filters out particulate matter from incoming air but simultaneously exhausts out the stale air from inside the building - all while ‘recovering’ a majority percentage of the conditioned air being circulated.

Measuring airflow at a supply vent. Each vent in a home should produce a specific volume of conditioned air and at a specific flow rate. Measuring airflow at each vent is vital in proper HVAC commissioning.

Thermal imaging cameras help us to assess temperature differences across the exterior walls and windows of a home. We can see the consistency of the installed exterior wall, ceiling, and floor insulation.

With thermal imaging, we can better define what insulation values may be plugged into the Manual J calculations for the most accurate results.

Assessing an outdoor condenser and collecting model/serial information for comparison with the Manual S (for proper equipment selection) for the following Manual J.

Connecting pressure hoses to prepare the blower door for the test.

Performing a duct leakage test in a client's living room using the Minneapolis Duct Leakage Testing Fan.

When building plans aren't available, we measure! Once we have measurements of the exterior perimeter and interior spaces, we draft a schematic of the building to use for Manual J Load Calculation

In HVAC design, each vent in a home should produce a specific volume of conditioned air and at a specific flow rate. Here we are measuring airflow at a return vent.
Greenwheel Developing, Inc.
Before we became Home Energy Solutions in 2021 we were once known as Greenwheel Developing, Inc. At the time, we focused on consultations for residential and light commercial construction with an emphasis on sustainability. Since 2009, we have consulted on more than 21,000 projects in the Southeastern United States.
Over time, our focus shifted to optimizing HVAC design and system commissioning services. As we have grown, it has become necessary to separate our commercial work from our residential. Home Energy Solutions, Inc. exclusively prioritizes homeowners, HVAC companies, builders, and real estate agents when it comes to residential energy assessments.
