Home Energy Audit
Case Study for HVAC Contractors
Most HVAC systems are working at about 50-75% of their optimized levels. Home Energy Solutions can help you improve performance and reduce service calls! It’s a win-win to spend less on purchasing equipment that is properly sized for a space, costs less for the homeowner to operate, and you will spend less time on inefficient service calls.
As an added bonus, we will stand with you on any project we partner on! Our goal is to guide you toward the best possible outcomes.
Home Energy Services for HVAC Contractors
Service Fees for HVAC Contractors
For completely new systems, our service fees run 2-4% of the total gross of a job’s costs. Every home is unique, and the amount of work may vary greatly, but 2-4% to know the equipment is installed to the letter accurate and correct for a given space and have a company that has a 100% positive track record while being deposed as an expert witness in cases where issues did arise is a powerful ally to have in your corner.
If you’re in over your head, the bottom line is do not guess. New building methodologies will cause headaches and cost you more money if not accounted for initially. We will guide you on the proper design and sizing of equipment, reduce your stress, help protect your reputation, and increase customer satisfaction.
Initial Consultation for Home Energy Audit
We meet with you for an initial consultation and review of the site. From there, we can provide a quote for creating an executable plan and to determine what diagnostics and testing may be required.
Mechanical Ventilation, Sizing, and Design Strategies
In tighter homes, getting the ventilation right is critical. Home Energy Solutions caters services to your needs and offers ASHRAE-based* mechanical ventilation design services.

Professional Proposals, Parts List, and Equipment Purchase Comparison Guides
Save time with fewer jobsite trips, professional equipment comparison guides based on the Manual J Load Calculations of your client’s space.
Proper System Balancing and Commissioning Services
Proper system commissioning and airflow balancing is paramount to good HVAC design. Home Energy Solutions can optimize your HVAC equipment’s functionality, troubleshoot issues, and prescribe remedies based on proper engineering practices.
Quality Assurance Inspection Services
Home Energy Solutions recognizes both the daily business challenges HVAC contractors face as well as the technical nuances of the industry’s requirements. Quality assurance means fewer call-backs and better product offerings to your clients resulting in a positive business reputation.
Residential and Commercial Duct Pressure Testing (or Duct Leakage Testing)
Residential duct leakage testing has been a NC Code mandate since 2012. For HVAC contractors, duct leakage testing in homes validates your installation work only. Home Energy Solutions services add the additional benefit of knowing that the ducts and equipment installed for a given space are optimized for that space.
Leakage in high pressure ductwork in commercial buildings can present the same types of negative effects as residential construction. Mostly though, verifying commercial duct tightness is more a function of mitigating risk to the owner of a building and confirming the installation practices of the installer. The benefits of the results of this testing are self-evident when data is extrapolated over a modeled time period when accounting for mitigated losses.
Blower Door Testing
For HVAC contractors, the blower door test should always be used in conjunction with a Manual J Load Calculation procedure. The Blower Door Test may also prove monumentally useful when there are comfort issues - and often in ways that many HVAC Partners do not realize.
In addition, the blower door test should be used in “tight” homes to assist in calculating ventilation requirements.
Code Inspection Services
In certain municipalities, Manual J, Manual D, and Duct Leakage testing services are required as part of the permitting process. Home Energy Solutions can also work with your inspectors to arbitrate code-inspection related disagreements.
HVAC Design Services
Properly sizing and designing HVAC equipment accounts for the greatest functional energy savings possible in residential structures - especially when combined with a well-constructed building.
Manual J Load Calculations
Manual D Duct Design
Manual S Equipment Selections
Manual T Calculations
Improperly designed and commissioned HVAC equipment, at best, will create unfavorable and uncomfortable circumstances within a home.
At worst, they can create unnecessary and expensive problems including mold to manifest in a variety of ways within a home’s envelope. If HVAC equipment you install manifests these issues, it will negatively impact your reputation.
Outsource your load calculations, duct design work, duct leakage, and system commissioning to Home Energy Solutions.
We perform these calculations before construction as well as after equipment has been installed in existing homes. If you find yourself unable to successfully troubleshoot why comfort issues are occurring (or recurring), then give us a call.
Our services are about improving the quality of your installation because we understand and utilize the engineered standard. True quality assurance, though, begins at the design stage and persists throughout the installation process.
Home Energy Solutions can provide a well-rounded approach to solving issues that contractors may be experiencing at any stage of the process. The real benefit of partnering with Home Energy Solutions is establishing greater consistency with the services and equipment you provide.
When it comes to business profitability, being able to control for the unexpected is paramount.
A well-designed and well-installed duct system is vital to achieving overall system efficiency as well as comfort for occupants.
Our services remove obstacles standing in your way:
As an HVAC Contractor, what would it feel like to:
build a reputation for offering and properly installing sustainable equipment that functions at optimal levels?
have a fully qualified engineer on staff without the salary and with all of the credit?
never turn a customer down because a job seems too complicated?
It is possible to streamline your services and cut down on unnecessary service calls. Your clients will have a home with less hassle and maintenance, cost less to operate, be consistently comfortable, and have a better awareness of their personal stake in the broader consumption of energy and fuels!

Great question - a little abrupt - but we appreciate it!
30 years ago homeowners were happy simply having cold air blowing in their homes. Seriously, who in the world thought about HVAC or home efficiency back in the 1980s?
The homes in which you were first installing equipment were measurably different animals altogether as well. Today you get it wrong and mold starts growing in people’s walls within 72 hours in the southeast!
The even bigger problem is that now, not only do homeowners recognize the value in a healthier home with optimized indoor air quality and energy-saving appliances, but nearly everybody seems to have a lawyer on speed dial when something goes wrong!
HES is here to reward your experience in the HVAC industry and to collaborate on improving your business altogether. Making Home Energy Solutions, Inc. a collaborator in your business will start paying dividends from day one.

How else could we truly control for all variables and ensure that what was engineered to be installed is actually functioning properly in practice?
